It’s been an exciting year so far for the Sports Therapy Association (STA). Gary Benson, Founder of STA, gives us an update.
We are pleased to announce that we will be running our 2nd annual conference at TherapyExpo at the NEC, Birmingham on 22-23 November after it was such a success last year – thank you to everyone who came!
Also, in January 2017 we launched our endorsement service through PD:Approval for colleges, universities and private training providers (see www.pdapproval.com/sta for full details). This supports our commitment to raise standards and we are pleased to announce that Burrell Education has been approved for our first Industry Award as part of this endorsement service. Danielle White and Jenny Burrell from Burrell Education told us:
“The Burrell Education Level 3 industry award in Sports Massage was created to help health and wellness professionals who want to add the power of soft tissue work to their toolkit, and for existing therapists to deepen or refresh their current skills .”
We are also pleased to announce that our first university, Lincoln College, is putting their BSc through the endorsement process. Additionally, we have several private training providers submitting training, all looking to support our members with employability skills.
We have also announced that the STA is developing a Technical Expert Group to consult on a range of Occupational Competencies from which colleges, universities and private training Providers can create their training courses to ensure they meet the needs of the industry.
STA is uniquely placed to offer independent advice as we are not linked directly to a training provider which we feel avoids any potential conflict of interest, we continue to be the only membership association in Sports Therapy to represent and support members completing Foundation Degrees in Sports Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation as part of their learning journey.
STA offers a 100% money back guarantee to our members if they are not satisfied with the level of service they receive from us, and during the past 12 months our membership has increased by 40% – this includes a growing number of graduate Sports Therapists joining us on completion of their BSc courses. We recently attended the Elite Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Expo in London, where we met with current members and prospective members to continue our member focused activities. Our East Midlands based Event Support Team goes from strength to strength and to date we have supported over 25000 athletes and provided in excess of 300 work opportunities or mentored work placements for students and newly qualified therapists.
