We are very pleased to welcome Louise Sutton to the PD:Approval Evaluation team. A registered Sport & Exercise Nutritionist, Louise is currently the Head of Sport and Exercise Nutrition with Physical Activity at Leeds Becket University.
With a background in clinical dietetics Louise started her career in the fitness industry and has a particular interest in the practical application of sport dietetics in elite and extreme environments.
Louise has applied her dietetic knowledge and skills into a range of contexts including health and fitness, Himalayan expeditions, polar challenges, Atlantic rows and round the world solo-ocean racing record attempts. With a more mainstream sport nutrition focus she has advised many elite sports professionals from a range of sports, both Olympic and Professional, including athletics, cricket, cycling, football and rugby. She currently leads the provision to the National Race Walking Squad based in Leeds. Known for her very practical approach, Louise has extensive experience in delivering nutrition education programmes, particularly aimed at supporting junior athlete development.
Louise is a former Chair of the British Dietetic Association Sport Nutrition Interest Group and current Deputy Chair of the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr) Board with responsibility for Registration and Accreditation. She has been awarded the BDA Roll of Honour three times for her contribution to the development of the SENr. In recognition of her significant contribution to the profession, Louise was a 2016 recipient of the BDA IBEX Professional Achievement Award.
A senior fellow of the HEA, Louise has a wealth of teaching experience having led the development of many programmes from Certificate through to Masters level. She currently focuses her teaching on the MSc in Sport & Exercise Nutrition. Having led the programme development it was the first to receive accreditation by the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register. This nationally recognised programme offers students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working with athletes and coaches from a range of sports through an applied practice programme. In addition, Louise was instrumental in the development of the PG Certificate in Sport & Exercise Nutrition for Health Care Practitioners that offers the opportunity for those in full time employment a blended learning approach to continued professional development.
In addition to the evaluation of dietary intakes, knowledge and behaviours of elite athletes, particularly junior athletes, Louise’s research interests focus on the nutritional considerations of extreme challenges or challenges in extreme environments.
Endorsement for Nutrition-based programmes
To gain endorsement and offer CPD points for any programmes which provide training around nutrition, simply submit them in the normal way – either as a full submission or, if you have a Bundle or Unlimited Endorsement, via the PD:Portal with evidence uploaded to your Endorsement Dropbox.
